Chinese Lunar Zodiac Year of the Dragon Coin | Silver & 24K Gold Plated | Almaz Vienna

- Info
This collector's coin renders the dragon — the fifth and most auspicious sign of the Chinese lunar zodiac — in struck silver, with the beast itself raised in 24K gold plating so the coiling body, clawed feet, whiskered snout and flaming pearl stand proud of the silver field. The two-tone contrast is the point: cool silver ground, warm gold relief, a piece made to be turned in the hand and read detail by detail rather than worn.
The Year of the Dragon motif
In the zodiac cycle the dragon governs power, fortune and protection, and it is the only mythical creature among the twelve animals. The coin's obverse is given over entirely to the serpentine dragon in flight, scales and mane individually defined in the gold plating; the reverse carries the lunar-zodiac framing that identifies the dragon year. It is struck as a keepsake coin, unmounted, intended for the collector's tray or cabinet rather than a setting.
