Antique French Gilded Bronze Mantel Clock

This late 19th-century French mantel clock is the figural model known as the 'Mystery Boy' — a gilded bronze (ormolu) cherub seated beside the dial as though guarding the passage of time, the conceit that gives the piece its name. Cast and hand-chased in the Rococo taste, it pairs warm ormolu modelling with a veined marble base, the combination Parisian ateliers favoured for a drawing-room garniture.
