Most retrograde watches reserve the trick for the minute hand; the Retro Second spends it on the seconds — the pointer sweeps an arc, hesitates, and snaps back, sixty times an hour, in a quiet piece of horological theatre. The case is 36mm of 18K white gold with a cream mother-of-pearl-tone dial, the buckle is white gold, the crocodile strap measures 185mm, and the listing code RSE.M.60.429.CN.BA pairs to the original Geneva-era production books that Gérald Genta (1931–2011) maintained at the atelier he founded in 1969. Genta had already drawn the Royal Oak (1972) and the Nautilus (1976) for other maisons before allowing his own brand to specialise in the retrogrades and jumping hours that the corporate houses would not commission. This vintage piece arrives complete with original box and papers and has been authenticated at Stephansplatz.
