Of all the lines in Chaumet's contemporary catalogue, Joséphine is the one that reaches furthest back. The collection is named for Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais — Marie-Étienne Nitot's most famous client when he opened his Place Vendôme atelier in 1780 — and the Aigrette is its most architectural expression. A sweep of brilliant-cut pavé rises from the band like a tiara seen in miniature, finishing in the pointed plume that gives the design its name.
